    Researching Italian Records

    by Daniel Niemiec

Many people with Italian ancestors don't read Italian, and thus they don't try to research Italian civil or church records.  Dan will show you that you can learn to find the genealogical information without reading every word on every page.  He will show you an overview of common document formats and indexes so you can work with them easily.

Daniel Niemiec has been the monthly Italian genealogy columnist for Fra Noi for the past 12 years. He has researched his family for 26 years and has traced his Italian roots back to the mid 1600's. By tracing the descendants of those ancestors he has well over 80,000 known relatives.

Are you Related to Someone Famous?

    by Bob Allen

A really fun aspect of genealogy is identifying "famous people" who are related to you.

We will talk about initial steps; how to prepare to do your research; helpful websites like gene.com; famouskin and abcgenealogy; ways to explain your discoveries; and how being related to a famous person can lead you to other relatives.

We will learn about the genealogies of Davy Crockett,  Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Adams, Tom Hanks, Laura Welch Bush, Ling John "Lackland" of England, Ann Boleyn and others.

Bob Allen received a BA in Political Science and a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Kansas.

He then graduated from the University of Texas Law School in Austin, Texas.

Now retired, he held executive positions with Container Corporation of America and Baxter Healthcare.

Hunting for Henry: A Case Study Using Collaterals

    by Teresa McMillin

Henry Steren was a German immigrant who lived in Quincy, Illinois.  The US records that were created about him indicate only that he was from the Province of Hanover on Germany. This lecture will deal with how his town of origin and parents were identified in spite of the lack of records naming him. Carefully researching each of his associates and correlating all available evidence reveals the origins of Henry. Use of the Genealogical Proof Standard is demonstrated.

Teresa Steinkamp McMillin is a Certified Genealogist who specializes in German-American and Midwest research, as well as reading German script. She presents quality genealogy lectures for local and national organizations. She has attended the Institute of Genealogy and Historical research, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, National Genealogical Society's Home Study Course and has a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Illinois - Urbana.

She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, as well as many local genealogical organizations. She is the co-president for the Northwest Suburban Genealogy Society.
