A Father for Patrick Ross: Indirect Evidence Proves the Papa

by Liz Ross

Patrick Ross was born in Knox, Tennessee in 1824 and shot dead in Jefferson County, Illinois on April 8, 1864. His life in Illinois is well-documented and he is on many Ancestry trees. Most trees do not mention his parents, but when mentioned, none offer proof. Patrick, however, must have had a father. Indirect evidence, from Tennessee and Illinois, is assembled to prove the identity of his father, and along the way demonstrates how to build the family tee with scraps and bits.

Join us as Lis Ross takes us on a journey of discovery, piecing together the puzzle of far-ranging documents to develop indirect evidence ultimately proving Patrick's father.

Speaker: Liz Ross, researcher and educator, lectures and writes for periodicals both genealogical and non. She spoke at GeneaQuest in 2020 and at NGS in 2019. Lis Ross is on CAGGNI's Conference Committee, ISGS's Education Committee, and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and NGS. She delights in land records, constructing (and untangling) complex families, and integrating unfamiliar sources.
