General Information

The Computer Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois (CAGGNI) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. The objectives of the group are as follows:

• Assisting members in their genealogical research and using computers in this endeavor.
• Keeping members informed on new technologies and techniques to support their research.
• Providing genealogical and computer mentoring for its membership.
• Undertaking projects that support the genealogical community in the region.

CAGGNI is an active group, putting on over 30 programs annually, publishing a monthly newsletter and maintaining a website that serves the local genealogical community, including nonmembers. The group also has a popular and active Facebook group open to any interested genealogist.

The organization holds 11 monthly meetings on the 3rd Saturday of the month (except December), usually at 10:30 a.m. at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, IL. The meeting location will be confirmed 90 days in advance.

CAGGNI also sponsors 2nd Saturday workshops and SIG meetings. These interactive sessions offer the attendee the opportunity to practice new techniques along with a facilitator.

The group has seven Special Interest Groups (SIGs). These meet several times a year, usually on Saturdays, at the Schaumburg Township District Library. They are for those interested in more in-depth learning about software or other genealogy topics. Please see the events calendar for dates and times for these SIGs:

• Family Tree Maker (FTM) SIG
• Reunion SIG
• Roots Magic+The Master Genealogist (RM+TMG) SIG
• Storytellers SIG
• DNA SIG
• Internet SIG
• Colonial America SIG

Members of CAGGNI organize biennial road trips to genealogical libraries where members research during the day and attend optional social events such as group dinners in the evenings.

CAGGNI also presents a biennial all-day genealogical conference, named GeneaQuest. This conference, with registration open to genealogists across the region, promotes the use of cutting-edge technology and complex DNA concepts for effective genealogical research.
